THE 2010 ANNUAL DINNER MEETING REPORT |
|
The Annual Dinner Meeting was held beginning at 6 pm on Tuesday, March 9, at the Sons of Italy Lodge, 301 Desmond Street in Sayre.
President Ken Bracken welcomed the members and guests; the Pledge of Allegiance was led by Nancy Brittain; the Invocation given by Bill Ransom. The Annual Reports provided those attending with the status of the society activities in 2009 through the plans for 2010. President Bracken reported on the extensive society accomplishments in 2009 (For the President’s Message, see below.); Vice President Mike Frantz on some of the plans for 2010, including the Dr. Donald Guthrie book signing at the museum on April 3, ArtsFest in Athens, PA, in May and Arts in the Park, the society fundraiser on the weekend of August 7 and 8. On display was a model of the Redman/Stephens gallery, the society focus for continuation of the museum build. This room will relate the history of the Lehigh Valley Railroad in Sayre and in nearby locations. The President spoke of the design of the gallery. In particular, an actual seating component from a Lehigh Valley passenger train will be incorporated into the gallery design. Visitors sitting there near the trackside windows will have the unique experience of a passenger aboard the train. “A Brief History of Sayre,” a Power Point slide presentation by the President, was the evening’s program. It highlighted in a visual reminder the development, importance and influence of Sayre in the Pennsylvania-New York area (some examples below). In so doing, it also reflected the society’s Mission for the community of Sayre and, with the eventual completion of the Redman/Stephens gallery with the Lehigh Valley story, for the surrounding area as well. • Examples for the PA/NY area: Those attending enjoyed a hot buffet dinner of a mixed lettuce salad, ziti with tomato sauce and meatballs, oven roasted chicken, Italian roast potatoes, green beans with a dessert of ice cream and wafers rounding out the menu. |
